<About This Book>

1. Characteristics of This Book
This book was written for business people and their families who have just started their life in Japan and are about to learn Japanese for the first time. The primary aim is for those learners to be ableto have the minimum communication skills required for their daily life and furthermore, to be able to enjoy daily conversations with the Japanese people around them.

In this book, unnecessary grammar and vocabulary are cut down and only the grammar essential to cope with each situation is presented. By doing this, learners are able to have confidence in communication in Japanese in a short period.
Therefore, ¡Æspeaking¡Ç and ¡Ælistening¡Ç are centered in the book and learning characters is not included. However, the dialogues are written both in Roman characters and Hiragana / Katakana for the learners who learn characters at the same time or those who have already learned them in advance.

Standard total study hours are 30 ¡Á 40, even in the case the learner learns the characters in parallel.


2. Structure of This Book
This book consists of the two stages, ¡ÆStage 1: Survival¡Ç and ¡ÆStage 2: Ice Breaking¡Ç.
¢£ Stage 1: Survival¡ÊLesson 1 ¡Á Lesson 7¡Ë
The primary aim of this stage is for the learners to be able to efficiently cope with various situations required for their daily life.
¢£ Stage 2: Ice Breaking¡ÊLesson 8 ¡Á Lesson 10¡Ë
All the basic grammar that the learners have learned in ¡ÆSurvival¡Ç is systematized in this stage.
The learners will be able to have simple communication by constructing sentences on their own and, using those, answering and asking simple questions on familiar topics.


3. Structure of Each Lesson
Each lesson consists of two to three dialogues.
¢£ Dialogue: Conversations in situations that learners may encounter in their daily life
¢£ Key Sentence: Sentence patterns and expressions required for the dialogue
¢£ Drill: Substitution drill of the sentence patterns and expressions in the ¡ÆKey Sentence¡Ç
¢£ Activity:Stage 1: Survival¡ÄPractical exercises to be able to cope with the situation of the dialogue Learners will play only the role of ¡ÆYou¡Ç in the role-play.
